As far as I could tell the Camry was at fault. I was making a left turn and you have to clear the intersection when the light goes red. He on the other hand, should’ve stopped, but based on the damage I don’t think he even thought about the brake pedal. If he was trying to stop surely the nosedive would put the damage higher up. I mean, my Mom got in an accident a few years ago, nothing major, but she had the brakes jammed on and ended up with damage on a MINIVAN to the UPPER bumper and front fender from the guys WHEEL. Something just tells me he didn’t even try. Later he tried to tell me he couldn’t brake because there were people behind him. Um, no. I have a dashcam. I looked. (Not posting the results here, at least not yet) There was no traffic behind you.

Yeah, it’s not. Tiny dent in the body that you wouldn’t even see with some buffing (cue JC comment), and while the bumper is worse it doesn’t appear to have even bent. And while it is scuffed more, the bumper isn’t in the greatest shape anyway, as far as finish goes. The leading edges have quite a few stone chips. In fact, on the other side the paint on the leading edge is barely hanging on. But it’s not bodywork and cna be changed if need be relatively easy and cheap, so...

Yeah. I’ll be honest, there could’ve been better reactions from both sides... I hesitated a little before rugging it. I’m glad I got this thing tuned. If the truck had hesitated as well through electronic interference, I’d be screwed. As far as he goes... besides the obvious “running the light” thing, judging by the hirght of impact I don’t even think he touched the brakes.

I don’t think right of way is an issue. Light changes, it’s his responsibility to stop if he can (he could) and mine to clear the intersection. Anyway, he doesn’t want to do anything about it, and I sure as hell don’t. Insurance deductibles screw you over more than you’d gain. As far as the cops go, here you don’t need to report it when there’s less than $1000 damage, so that covers me. If he’s trying to screw me over by casting me in a bad light... I’ll take that chance. I’ve got video and photos. The thing that bugs me that way is that you can also be at fault if you could’ve done something to avoid it even if you didn’t cause it. I could have probably judged it better (well duh, I got hit), but I think I hold the trump cards in the fact that he had room to stop, he had the light to stop, and based on the height of impact I don’t think he even considered it. Doesn’t look like any nose-dive under braking at all.

I wasn’t offended. Okay well I’m a little sensitive because after having three unreliable “fun” cars I finally broke down and bought a Camry. I’ve been getting hell from my friends but it’s been a relief to not have to worry about getting from point A to point B. And although it felt like defeat to be assimilated into the Camry ownership club it has freed up my time to spend on other fun stuff.
